The pavé setting, means “paved with diamonds”. By closely setting small diamonds together with minimal visibility of the tiny prongs holding the stones in place, the effect is continuous sparkle. This design can be made in a modern or vintage style and is a perfect option to compliment any center stone by providing extra brilliance. Diamonds are said to be pavé-set when they are as small as .01-.02 carats and any smaller than that would be called micro-pavé.

Most prong settings feature either four or six prongs. A four-prong setting allows you to see more of the diamond, but a 6 prong setting is more secure. Compared to other settings, this type of setting has little metal, therefore, more of the diamond is visible and more light that can pass through the diamond, adding to its brilliance.
